(1948-2013) - Henry C. Lupa, 66, passed away June 17, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long illness.
Born in Poland to the late Kazimierz and Cecilia (Nowak) Lupa, he immigrated to the United States in 1965 and was a Ludlow resident for 48 years.
He was a communicant of Christ the King Church. He was also a member of the Polish American Citizens Club of Ludlow and was presented with their Citizen of the Year award in 2009.
Henry started a landscaping business and then a construction business, N.L. Construction, in Ludlow. But, his dream was a zoo and in 1996, he opened Lupa Zoo , a conservation and education institution demonstrating the value, beauty and interdependence of all living things. Henry loved his animals and took pride in raising them with the utmost care.
The zoo is a testament of his contribution to zoological education to the community. He was predeceased by his parents and a son, Mark Henry Lupa, in 1997.
He leaves his wife of 48 years, Joan (Czupryna) Lupa; two sons, Waclaw "Wally" Henry Lupa and his wife Ewa Lupa of Belchertown and Stanley Henry Lupa, grandsons, Joseph Henry Lupa, and Wesley Henry Lupa; Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 21, 2013 assembling at 9:00 a.m. at Nowak Funeral & Cremation Services and proceeding to Christ the King Church for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Aloysius Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Thursday, June 20, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
