(1958-2012) - Kurt Karl Hooper, 54, left this world on Friday, November 30, 2012 and was welcomed to his final resting place with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born to Carl and Barbara (Homon) Hooper in Springfield. In his early school years, he was taught by the Sisters of Holy Name in Chicopee and in the Longmeadow School System. He continued to study in elementary school until 8th grade and then matriculated to higher learning in community colleges until finally, after much hard work he entered American International College and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education. This was difficult due to his poor health.
He was employed at East Longmeadow High School where he taught high school with a group of teachers in a resource room for learning disabled children for ten years. He struggled physically during those years but with the help of the Lord Jesus Christ he overcame many medical obstacles. He was a strong, caring man who loved sports and although he couldn't play for health reasons, he participated by becoming part of the coaching team, the Spartans. He was adored and respected by faculty and students as well as the students parents'. His homeroom was nicknamed "Go Spartans".
He leaves his mother, Barbara (Homon) Hooper of Feeding Hills, a sister, Sheila Sylvain of Holyoke, three nephews, Brian, Kevin and Jeffrey, and a niece Shauna. He also left two great-nephews and a great-niece. A large family of aunts, uncles and cousins completed his group who will miss him very much.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 10am at the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street followed by burial in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 8:30 – 10am. The family request that flowers be omitted.
