(1939-2013) - Lewis Kalesnik, 74, died Friday, July 12, 2013 at the VA Administration Hospital in Brockton, MA. He was born in Springfield, March 9, 1939, son of the late Frank and Mary (Scycurka) Kalesnik. He fought a hard battle with cancer. Lew served in the United States Army and the Air Force Reserve. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Springfield and was the post master in Ware. Lew grew up with the Springfield Boys Club and was an alumni member. He resided in the SCI Unit at the Brockton VA Medical Center. He loved working in the green house and making flower arrangements. He was known as "The Lone Arranger". Lew participated in the Wheel Chair Games, winning three medals for archery and bowling.
He leaves his wife of thirty-two years, Patricia M. (Kennison) Kalesnik, a son, Frank L. Kalesnik of Sneads Ferry, NC, a daughter, Tonya L. Rivard of Colchester, VT, four step-children, Tammy Judd, Julie Brigante, Steven Messier, Scott Messier, three brothers, Joseph and his wife Dianne Kalesnik of Westfield, Lawrence and his wife Maureen Kalesnik of Norman, OK, Richard Kalesnik, four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Freddie and Leon Kalesnik and a sister, Stephanie Kolodziej.
The funeral will be Thursday at 9:30am from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street with a Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church at 10. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the service from 8 – 9:30am.
