(1917-2013) - Maria (Golko) Kierkla, 96, entered into eternal rest on Friday, September 6, 2013 at home. Born in Olszanka, Poland, she moved to Feeding Hills in 1961, when she came to the United States. Maria had worked for the former Hampden County Training School and for Waniewski Farms, both in Feeding Hills. She loved gardening and her flowers, and canning the many vegetables from her garden. She enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Springfield. Her husband, Josef Kierkla died in 2008.
She leaves a son and his wife, Stanley E. and Anna Kierkla of Alpharetta, GA, six grandchildren and their spouses, Barbara and Randall Harrington, Joseph and Christine Kierkla, William and Melissa Kierkla, Mark and Elizabeth Kierkla, Christine and Robert Blumberg, AnneMarie and Brian Lista and seventeen great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son and his wife, Chester Kierkla in 1999 and Elizabeth (Lizon) Kierkla in 1996.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 9am from the Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street with a Mass in Our Lady of the Rosary Church at 10. The burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Suffield. Calling hours are Monday 4-7pm.
