(1931-2013) - Richard E. Harrison, 81, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at home. Born in Agawam, son of the late William and Etta (Strong) Harrison, he was a lifelong resident. Richard was a truck driver for Smith Transfer, Boston Buffalo and finally Lawry Freight. An avid fisherman and hunter, he was a founding member of the Agawam Fish & Game Club, and enjoyed farming and bee keeping. Dick was a Korean navy veteran, and a life member of both the American Legion Post 185 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Hampden County Bee Club and the Agawam United Methodist Church.
He leaves his wife of fifty-nine years, Shirley M. (Lauritsen) Harrison, three sons, Timothy D. Harrison of Easthampton, Dean R. Harrison and Shayne A. Harrison both of Feeding Hills, a daughter, Deyanne "Dusty" Harrison of West Springfield, three brothers, William of Florida, Joseph of West Springfield, Charles of East Longmeadow, five sisters, Thelma, Louise, Marjorie, Dorothy and Judith all of Florida, and two grandsons, Damion and Brian Harrison.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1pm at the Agawam United Methodist Church, 459 Mill Street. The burial will be private. Calling hours will precede the service at Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street from 10am – 12 noon. Donations may be made to the Springfield Rescue Mission, Box 9045, Springfield, MA 01102-9045.
