WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Voters in parts of two western Massachusetts cities will go to the polls on Tuesday, to reduce the number of candidates on the November ballot.
In Westfield, voters in Ward 4 will choose between incumbent City Councilor Mary O’Connell, and challengers John Michaliszyn and Michael Burns. Only two of the three candidates will appear on the final ballot.
In Pittsfield, Ward 1 and Ward 3 voters will reduce the number of candidates down to two. Ward 1 incumbent Christine Yon is being challenged by Tammy Ives and Lisa Tully. In Ward 3, four candidates are vying to replace the retiring Councilor Paul Capitanio: Nicholas Caccamo, Jeffrey Germann, Richard Latura, and Thomas Wells, Jr.
Perhaps the most watched race of the night will be outside western Massachusetts; where only two of the 12 candidates for mayor of Boston will be able to move on to the November ballot to succeed longtime Mayor Thomas Menino.
