PURDY, Wash. (CNN/KIRO) - People in Washington State got a rare view from the beach.
A gray whale could be seen swimming in a small lagoon during low tide on Wednesday.
A crowd gathered to see the whale, which was so close even drivers going over a nearby bridge caught a glimpse.
Unfortunately, the reason for the whale's close proximity to the shore might not be so good.
A local expert says the whale is in an area not normally visited by his kind. He also said the whale appears thin and malnourished.
The whale has since moved on but has been sighted elsewhere in the area.
Experts say they are monitoring the situation.
They say if the whale ends up in a place where it appears trapped, they would take action to rescue it.
