BLANDFORD, Mass. (WWLP) - - It was a bone-chilling start Friday morning as temperatures madeit well below zero across western Massachusetts.
It made it down to 17 degrees below zero at Westover inChicopee which broke the record of 9 below set back in 2004. InOrange the mercury dropped all the way down to minus 21.
At the Blandford Country Store, it was hot soup and coffeethat were in high demand as people tried to warm up after being outin the arctic chill.
Despite the record cold temperatures it's the kind of weathermost New Englanders have come to expect this time of year.
"This really isn't odd for up here. In this morning's paperit said that this time period is the time you get this kind ofweather so it's kinda following through to form, " said Tom Ackleyof Blandford.
"When it gets this cold and then it gets a little bit warmerthan it seems like it's not as cold anymore, you get so used to thereal cold," said Jim Evangelista of Northampton.
It might be weather we expect here in New England but not allof us ever get used to it.
"I've been living in New England my whole life and I'm stillnot used to it. I just want to move to Florida or California orsomething like that," said Anthony St. Germaine of Hindsdale, NewHampshire.
Florida couldn't even escape the cold weather. Down there,temperatures were in the 50s and 60s Friday with low temperaturesexpected to be in the 20s and 30s at night We could see more recordcold weather again Friday night in western Massachusetts.
