SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Falcons fans will have their chance to see the Birds continue their quest for the Calder Cup, at home on Friday night.
At 7:00 P.M. the Falcons will take on the Syracuse Crunch for Game 1 of the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Semifinals. Game 2 of the series will also be held at the MassMutual Center, and will be played Saturday night at 7:00.
The Falcons go into Friday night's game after defeating the Manchester Monarchs in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals 3-1, with each win coming in overtime. The Crunch swept the Portland Pirates 3-0 in their series.
The winner of this best-of-seven series then goes on to the Eastern Conference Final against either the Providence Bruins or the Wilkes Barre/Scranton Penguins. The winner of that series will compete with the Western Conference champion for the Calder Cup.
While the city of Springfield has seen seven Calder Cup championships since the foundation of the AHL, all of those were won by the city's previous franchise, the Springfield Indians/Springfield Kings. This is the Falcons' first appearance in the Eastern Conference Semifinals since 1997, and only the third appearance in franchise history. The most recent Calder Cup championship in Springfield was in 1991.
Games 3, 4, and 5 (if necessary) of the series will be played in Syracuse, while hypothetical Games 6 and 7 would be held at 7:00 P.M. at the MassMutual Center on May 21 and 22 respectively.
Tickets for all Falcons playoff games are available on ticketmaster.com or the MassMutual Center box office.
