CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - The news that tight end Aaron Hernandez has been released from the Patriots following his arrest Wednesday morning didn't come as a surprise to many local fans. Yet, many expressed disappointment with the young player, who has been linked with an ongoing murder investigation.
Hernandez was arrested at his North Attleborough home on Wednesday morning. It is not immediately clear what he will be charged with, but that will come to light after his arraignment at Attleboro District Court Wednesday afternoon.
Michael Recor of Springfield said the initial news about Hernandez's link to the investigation came as a shock, but the latest developments don't stun him.
"I didn't really believe it, to be honest with you, but then again, he's been a troublemaker, I guess. You know he's had his problems, and basically, I'm disappointed," Recor said.
Bruce Cierpial of Chicopee told 22News that he isn't sure whether Hernandez was in any way involved in the killing of Odin Lloyd , but if he is, then the punishment should be severe.
"He had everything going for him- the money he was going to make, playing for a pro football team as young as he is. He had everything that the Lord could offer right in front of him, and if he had anything to do with this, like I said, shame on him and I hope he hangs. And if he's innocent, then let that be brought out, too," Cierpial said.
Lloyd's body was found at an office park about a mile away from Hernandez's home.
