SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - The Patriots weren't the only local team with an exciting come back. Following some late game heroics, the American League Championship Series is now tied at one game apiece.
The Detroit Tigers were leading the Red Sox 5-to-nothing well into the 5th inning, but that's when their scoring would end and the Sox would soon begin.
Thanks to David Ortiz and his grand slam, the Sox won 6-to-5, and sporting goods stores are cashing in on the win.
Modells told 22News that Red Sox t-shirts were the big sell Monday. There were certainly many variations to choose from. Some were decorated with the "iconic beards" while others reading "We Own the East."
Even an Oakland A's fan found it difficult to not get in the Sox spirit. Henry Andrews of Springfield said, "I mean I kind of root for them because the team they're playing beat my team so I have no choice. The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Andrews says his Facebook feed was filled with Sox and Pats statuses. Speaking of the Pats, Andrew says he's not going to start rooting for them just yet. There's still a whole season left for his favorite team, the Raiders, to beat Brady and the boys.
Of course, 22News did speak with diehard fans too. Amini Lamar told 22News she's from the Springfield area but lives in Maryland now. She said there's nothing like being around so many excited Sox fans back in her hometown though.
"That's why I have to get it before I go back home because there's not really any apparel to buy there,” said Lamar. “I'll probably get another t-shirt or maybe a hat or something.”
She also watched the Patriots game Sunday night and said you can never sleep on Tom Brady because he'll always pull through in the end.
