Brady and his rookie receivers finally started to click versus the Buccaneers in Week 3, winning 23-3. The Patriots defeated division rival NY Jets, 13-10, in an ugly offensive, Week 2 game.
According to the Associated Press, the Patriots signed four-year veteran Austin Collie to add experience to their young wide receiver corps.
They also placed defensive tackle Vince Wilfork on injured reserve on Thursday and released tight end Zach Sudfeld, a rookie free agent who struggled after an impressive preseason.
Collie spent his first four seasons with the Indianapolis Colts before signing as a free agent with San Francisco last Aug. 2. He had been a free agent since the 49ers released him Aug. 31.
He was a productive wide receiver out of the slot in his first three seasons but had at least three concussions since November 2010 and left another game with concussion-like symptoms. He missed three games early last season because of a concussion and played in just one game before rupturing the patellar tendon in his right knee.
The Patriots finished the preseason 3-1, beating the NY Giants, 28-20, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 25-21, and the Philadelphia Eagles, 31-22. The Patriots did however suffer an embarrassing loss against the Detroit Lions, losing 40-9.
In the 2012 NFL Season, the Patriots ended the regular season with a 12-4 record, making it to the the AFC Championship. Unfortunately they lost to the Super Bowl Champions, the Baltimore Ravens, who played in the 2013 NFL season game opener, and lost to the Denver Broncos, 49-27.
