SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It's that time of year again: Daylight Saving Time begins this weekend. We "spring forward" one hour at 2:00 Sunday morning, though many digital clocks will adjust automatically.
Moving ahead one hour, however, will take some doing with all the vintage school and factory clocks at the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History.
Director Guy McLain traced the history of Daylight Saving Time for 22News.
"During World War I, Germany and the German allies started using it to save coal," McLain said. "Then in the 1970s, when we had our fuel crisis, that's when it went back into effect, we've been with that ever since."
Most of us retain that seasonal lesson learned early in life, when to move the clock back one hour and when to move it ahead as we'll do this weekend.
