SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - It was a celebration on Friday for one Springfield family who has been waiting 16 months to move back into their Bradley Road home.
On June 1st, 2011 Terry Humphries and MaryAnn Carroll's home was badly damaged after the tornado tore through their neighborhood.
To make matters worse the home had just been renovated so MaryAnn's terminally ill sister could move in and Terry had just been diagnosed with leukemia.
The couple was getting the home repaired but the contractor they hired ended up ripping them off and leaving the job unfinished.
"We've run out we have no where to go, we're going to have to go down and acknowledge that we're essentially homeless and we'll go to a motel and not to mention would lose everything else," said Maryann Carroll.
That's when Springfield Community Together stepped in and hired Adrian Construction to rebuild Terry and MaryAnn's home.
Now with the construction almost complete the family will finally be able to move into the house just in time for Thanksgiving.
"We pretty much had to rebuild the whole home so we're very proud we're almost at that point, another day or two we'll be done and they'll be able to move in for the Thanksgiving Holiday," said Terry Humphries.
Two weeks ago we drove by and we could see the shed from the backyard through the house you want a miracle that's what they've done in two weeks no we did not think we'd be able to be back in the house by Thanksgiving.
