EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The last couple of weeks of October have truly brought the colder air that was lacking during the beginning of fall.
The 22News Storm Team found that this early cold is making some of you get ready for winter ahead of schedule.
Autumn cold was in the air in western Massachusetts Saturday morning, and with the cold around many of us had to put the heat on.
"We turned it on yesterday was the first time. We tried to make it to November first, but we couldn't do it. I was up at seven and my windshield was iced up so yah it was cold and unpleasant." said Chuck Thompson of East Longmeadow.
While it took a while for us to get the first frost, now that the chill is here, it's much colder than normal.
Not only was Saturday morning the coldest morning of the season so far, but it was almost record breaking. We hit 22 degrees and the record for Saturday morning was 21.
The cold combined with the wind to bring our first wind chills of the season.
With temperatures this cold arriving much earlier than normal, people are getting in a winter mindset early.
That's causing people to head to places like Rocky's Ace Hardware in East Longmeadow to get a head start on winter preparations getting things calking, and weather strips to keep the heat in.
"The scrapers are starting to go out a little bit in the morning. We've sold a few we had to bring them down. Actually sold a few snow shovels already. People already thinking ahead. Salt really hasn't started moving yet, but it will...first storm," said Kevin White of Rockys Ace Hardware.
With two nights in a row with temperatures in the middle or low 20s, more seasonable overnight temperatures are in the forecast for a little while.
