EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - The snow western Massachusetts received on Thursday night and Friday morning piled up very differently over spaces of very short distances across western Massachusetts. Very little snow accumulated in low-lying areas like downtown Springfield, but just about six miles away in East Longmeadow, people were dealing with about a half a foot of snow.

Drivers in the Springfield suburbs took it a little slower than normal, but most major roads were clear for the morning commute. The bigger inconvenience for many people in the area was clearing their driveways, especially in communities a bit farther to the east, like Wilbraham and Hampden, which received just under a foot of snow.
On the western edges of the Worcester Hills, in towns like Monson and Wales, well over a foot of snow accumulated.
