CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Showers and thunderstorms developing across New York state and Connecticut Sunday afternoon will move into western Massachusetts.
These storms have the potential to produce gusty winds, frequent lightning, hail, and very heavy rain.
Flash Flood Warning for northern Franklin County in Western Massachusetts until 6:30 PM EDT. Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Up to two inches of rain have already fallen.
Flash flooding is expected to begin shortly. Some locations that will experience flooding include Greenfield, Deerfield, Leyden, Bernardston, Shelburne, Buckland, and Colrain.
Precautionary/preparedness actions: A Flash Flood Warning is issued for rapid and potentially life threatening flooding. In urban areas avoid flooded roadways and obey road closures. Those living along streams and creeks should move to higher ground immediately to protect life and property.
The storms should diminish around sunset but more rain will move in overnight.
