EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) - Monday was the day many in western Massachusetts had been waiting for; nothing but blue skies, sunshine and a welcoming warmth.
Greater Springfield had every reason to get out and enjoy the spectacular day. Families filled East Longmeadow's Heritage Park. Among them was Chris Roth, who traveled from Greenfield to spend the day here with her daughter and grandchildren.
"We had a picnic, we had grapes, peanut butter and jelly, cucumbers. It was awesome," Roth said.
"It's such a blessing," Jaclyn Lemelin of East Longmeadow said. "It's just so great to be able to wear tank tops, come and get fresh air and see nature and just enjoy it, it's great."
After a brutal winter and a chilly early spring, people described this day as the first real spring day for western Massachusetts.
