DEERFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - On Thursday afternoon severe thunderstorms moved into Franklin County bringing heavy rains and strong gusty wind.
“It was pretty scary for a few minutes the wind came up I never seen the rain hit so hard it was slapping against the windows and the door and you looked out the window and you couldn't really see very far. Just the wind was unbelievable,” said Susan Mignault of Deerfield.
In Deerfield along Route 5 large trees came down and blocked the road.
“In fact when I went out my driveway I couldn't go north and I couldn't go south with out some help from the state police because both areas were closed down this one section of 5 and 10 was completely closed down," said Joe Mignault of Deerfield.
The wind was so strong it even moved the Mignaults' heavy picnic table off a concrete slab and onto the grass.
Trees and limbs in their yard and in their neighbor's yard were knocked down and some trees were even uprooted.
Fortunately despite all the trees and limbs that came down most of the home were not damaged and work crews have cleared the trees from the road.
