CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - As we draw closer to the winter months, some experts say it's going to be a cold one.
The Farmer's Almanac is a reference book that contains weather forecasts for the entire year ahead.
Their most recent almanac is predicting a "piercing cold" winter. Almanac researchers are able to predict the weather by using formulas that take into account the planet's positions, sunspots and moon cycles. But despite its history, most of those we spoke to do not trust the forecast.
Jay Chute of Florence told 22News, “I don't necessarily think that the farmers almanac is going to dictate how the winter will go. Basically we'll just have to wait and see.”
“I think the weather has been awfully unpredictable the last few years. We are looking forward a nice winter so we can ski and use the ski passes at the local ski mountain,” said Jeannette Wolfe of Northampton
Last winter, our most significant storm happened in February. The almanac predicts this winter's storm will come during the week of the Super Bowl.
