SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - With crime concerns high in Springfield, the police department is continuing to offer residents a way to help them curb violence.
The Citizens Police Academy is a hands-on opportunity to see what officers in the city do day in and day out. It also teaches residents how they can help police do their jobs.
One Springfield father told 22news that the academy plus attending neighborhood meetings has helped him take control of his family's safety.
"It informs you a bit more in detail, sometimes a neighbor right next to you could get robbed and you won't even know and that's one way of finding out crime wise in the community,” Fred Shubrick of Pine Point neighborhood said.
The academy is a ten week program.
