SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A 22News follow-up on the Interstate 91 Viaduct. It's a story we've been following closely since October.
The elevated bridge that runs through Springfield is in need of at least a $350 Million makeover. That project is not paid for yet.
The 22News I-Team asked Transportation Secretary Richard Davey about the current safety of the Viaduct.
(We have seen a lot of wood underneath the Viaduct recently. What is that there to protect?)
"I assume for concrete so if there's any concrete spalling or chipping it will prevent the concrete from falling onto the ground. That would be a normal precaution."
Secretary Davey told 22News he is hopeful the State Senate and House will pass a transportation bill that would allow the state to replace the Viaduct.
