WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Westfield State University President Evan Dobelle has taken legal action against some members of the Board of Trustees.
The 22News I-team recieved a copy of the 40 page complaint sent from Dobelle's attorney. It claims Dobelle was suspended from his job without due process and in violation of his employment agreement.
Dobelle is suing members of the Board of Trustees, including Chairman Jack Flynn; he's also suing the State Commissioner of Higher Education.
This comes after the board voted to place Dobelle on paid administrative leave last week pending a second investigation into his spending of the school's money.
"We filed this action today as a last resort and with deep regret. We hoped that honorable people would address this matter honorably, but we must now rely on our legal system as the bulwark against political maneuvering and back room schemes. In federal court, contracts are enforced and there are consequences for those who illegally set about to destroy a man's reputation. Judges and juries care about evidence, not vitriolic letters or half-truths whispered by anonymous sources to newspaper reporters. In court there are rules, and they are followed. We now look forward to a fair, impartial determination of the truth. Those who violated the law will be held accountable."
