(1923-2013) - Norman E. Jenks, 90, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2013 in Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Born in Feeding Hills, son of the late Prentiss and Martha (Stebbins) Jenks, he was a lifelong resident of Agawam. Norman was a retired sales and service representative for New England Door Closers in West Springfield, where he worked for over thirty-five years. He had been a member of the Agawam Volunteer Fire Department, a past member of the 4H Club and had been in a square dancing group. Norman was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he was a past Deacon and a member of their Mr. & Mrs. Club. He was a member of the Wednesday Walkers and a World War II Navy veteran, where he served on the U. S. S. Massachusetts in the Pacific and received the Purple Heart. He was also on the board of directors of the Agawam Center Cemetery Association. He enjoyed woodworking and made much of the furniture in his home.
His wife, Dorothy E. (Gray) Jenks died in 1999. He leaves two daughters, Irene E. Schlemmer of Agawam, Beverly A. and her husband Eduardo Santaniello of Feeding Hills, two brothers, Russell Jenks of Feeding Hills, Frank Jenks of New York, five grandchildren, Brian Montagna and his wife Melissa Montagna, Daniel Montagna, Umberto Santaniello, Maria Santaniello-Summers and her husband David Summers, Byron Schlemmer, and two great-grandchildren, Eva and Gage Montagna. He was predeceased by two brothers, Prentis Jenks, Jr., and Lee Jenks.
The funeral will be Tuesday at 1pm at the First Baptist Church, 760 Main Street followed by burial in Agawam Center Cemetery. Calling hours are Monday at Agawam Funeral Home, 184 Main Street from 5-7pm.
