Actress Lynn Whitfield visits First Lady’s Luncheon in Agawam

Womens History

The month of March has been dedicated to celebrating women and their achievements and a prominent woman trailblazer paid a visit to western Massachusetts earlier this month.

Acclaimed actress Lynn Whitfield delivered the keynote address for the St. John’s Congregational Church First Lady’s Luncheon at Chez Josef in Agawam.

It was fitting that Whitfield spoke at the First Lady’s Luncheon because Whitfield plays First Lady Mae Greenleaf on “Greenleaf,” a show that airs on the Oprah Winfrey Network.

Whitfield told 22News the message she hopes women reflect on throughout the month dedicated to them.

“We have to love us as God loves us,” said Whitfield. “I always as a work in progress love sharing that with women..because I have to remind myself of it every day.”

Whitfield is also best known for her roles in films like “The Josephine Baker Story,” “A Thin Line Between Love and “Hate and “Silverado.”

The theme of the 9th annual First Lady’s Luncheon was Women and Girls Empowerment.
