Today is the last day for our Toys for Tots drive at 22News. We are live from the 22News lobby talking about just how important Toys for Tots can be for children in need during the holidays.
We start our program with the history of the Toys for Tots drive. It was started by a Marine in California with some very influential friends (one of whom designed the logo still in use today).
We’ll hear from donors to Toys for Tots, including some police officers, girl scout troops and businesses that help make it all possible.
Wayfinders is one of the organizations that will distribute toys to hundreds of children in our area. With the toys donated through the Toys for Tots drive, they’re able to bring smiles to parents and kids in their emergency housing shelters.
Donating is good for the community, but it is also good for your soul! Dr. Sharon Saline tells us about the positive effect that donating can have on our mind.
Sgt. Evan Johnson of the US Marines ends our show with a look at just what happens next for the donated toys. It’s a big job to collect, sort and distribute all of those toys!
