In this edition of Pet of the Week, we were introduced to Henrietta, a 7-year-old domestic shorthair mix cat. Lee Chambers, Manager of Media & Public Relations at Dakin Humane Society, told us all about Henrietta and about other events going on at Dakin.
Location: Springfield: Dakin Humane Society
Breed: Domestic shorthair mix
Age: 7 years
Color: Black, orange, white
Henrietta is a lovely girl, but don’t let her delicate looks fool you. This little one has had some tough knocks, but she has taken care of herself out in the wild world during her days as a stray. Now she’s safe and sound at Dakin, and we’ve brought her back to health. What’s missing now is a new home and a person or family who will love her and make her their treasured companion. Is that you? Since she’s a stray, we don’t know much about her background, or how many people she may have lived with, but she has a gentle and docile nature and does well with other cats. Come meet her at our Springfield location.

Dakin Humane Society Participating in Jackson Galaxy’s Cat Pawsitive Pro program
Dakin is one of 10 shelters nationwide currently being trained in the Jackson Galaxy Cat Pawsitive Pro program. Our staff and volunteers are learning how to teach shelter cats tricks like “high five” to keep their minds engaged and to be more appealing to prospective adopters. Visit Dakin’s Facebook page (Dakin Humane Society – https://www.facebook.com/DakinHumaneSociety/) to see a fun video that captures Dakin kitties giving the High Five since today – April 19 – is National High Five Day!
Dakin Seeks Guardian Donors
Being able to provide a monthly donation to Dakin (via your credit card) enables us to meet the needs of animals in our community and as well as weather any animal emergency we may encounter. Gifts of all sizes can make a difference. For example:
$10 – provides 10 meals for 10 animals
$25 – provides 5 vaccines for 5 animals
$50 – provides spay/neuter surgery for a cat
$75 – provides medical care for a cat
$100 – provides spay/neuter surgery for a dog, or a life-saving x-ray to locate a broken bone
