(Mass Appeal) – If you’ve tried to hire a plumber, electrician, auto mechanic or any of the services of a skilled tradesperson, you may have found that they are absolutely overwhelmed with work and your request could take weeks or even months for them to get to. There seems as if there aren’t as many people entering the skilled trades as there once was. But why and is that statement accurate? Clare Hammonds, a Professor of Practice within the Labor Center at UMass Amherst, is here to talk about the perceived labor shortage within the skilled trades.
