ROCHESTER, Mass. (WPRI) — A man from southeastern Massachusetts has been arrested in an animal abuse case.
Daniel Pacheco, 41, of Rochester, was taken into custody after police found 23 animals living in deplorable conditions on his farm. Those animals include dogs, pigs, cows, goats and rabbits.
A baby cow was found dead on the property and another was found close to death. “I could not believe the conditions I saw at this location, it was horrendous,” Rochester Police Chief Paul Magee said.
Pacheco was charged with 21 counts of animal cruelty and agreed to surrender all of his animals. Each count carries a sentence of up to seven years in state prison and a maximum fine of $5,000, police said.
The investigation began after the town’s animal control officer conducted a state required animal and barn inspection.
