2nd victim of Amherst shooting expected to survive

AMHERST, Mass. (WWLP) – The second victim of a shooting at an Amherst apartment complex that killed a 31 year-old man is now in stable condition at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester.

Mary Carey, spokesperson for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, told 22News that the surviving victim, a 28 year-old man, is expected to recover from his wounds.

Jose “Joselito” Rodriguez died after being shot multiple times at the Southpoint Apartments on East Hadley Road Saturday morning. The 28 year-old man had also been shot several times, Carey said.

A makeshift memorial for Rodriguez was set up near the apartment complex, and on Monday, friends gathered to remember a man who one friend described as “the life of the party, always a great person.”

Amherst homicide victim remembered as “fun-loving guy”

Carey told 22News that they are still looking into the crime. No arrests have yet been made. Police do not believe that the shooting was random, and say that members of the public are not in any danger.
