A PVTA bus crashed into a light pole and street light

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – According to Springfield Police Department spokesman Ryan Walsh a PVTA bus carrying about 20 students crashed into a light pole and street light near State and School Streets just before 3 p.m.

No other cars were involved.

Springfield Police Spokesman Ryan Walsh told 22News, 22 students were on board when the bus crashed near State and School Streets just before 3 p.m.

The bus driver said he got out of the bus to try and reconnect the battery, because it wouldn’t move forward.

He told police as soon as he disconnected it, the bus began rolling forward, eventually crashing.

Two students were taken to Baystate Medical Center, but their injuries were described as minor.22News will bring you updates as more information becomes available.
