American Cancer Society in need of volunteer drivers for Road To Recovery program

A cancer patient’s doctor’s visit often hinges on getting a ride from a good samaritan.

The American Cancer Society needs volunteer drivers throughout western Massachusetts. The driver recruitment program is called the Road To Recovery. Every day hundreds of cancer patients need a ride to the doctor’s office.

Kelly Woods, who works at the American Cancer Society Holyoke headquarters, has been a volunteer driver herself.

“I know from personal experience, but also when I talk to our volunteers, they tell you,” said Woods. “I thank them for what they’re doing. They say they get more satisfaction. It’s almost selfish for what I do, I get such a great feeling  to get a patient to the treatment they need.”

If you can devote some spare time to drive a cancer patient to the doctor’s office, get all the information you’ll need here.
