GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The nation’s largest trucking industry group wants trucks to slow down on the highway.
The American Trucking Association says it opposes trucks going over 65 miles per hour because it could be dangerous for everyone on the highway. The organization wants the government to step in and require that all trucks have an electronic speed limiting device.
“It makes me scared driving on the road especially if I’m next to a tractor trailer with big tires and they drive next to me and their tires explode that puts me in a dangerous situation, especially when you have a family, kids and other people as well. Everything just goes down hill from there,” said a local Franklin County resident.
The Associated Press did a story last month about how most tires on big trucks aren’t designed to go over 75 miles per hour.
