“Art Stop” event brings street art to downtown Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Three pop-up art galleries opened in downtown Springfield on Wednesday, featuring dozens of local artists and performers.

The Springfield Central Cultural District held the “Art Stop” event in an effort to bring more community-based events to the downtown. “Art Stop” was designed to activate underutilized community spaces with colorful art and create economic opportunity for artists.

Judy Cmero from Wilbraham told 22News that events like these are so important to the Springfield community; “You know, it would be wonderful for lots and lots of artists to show their work in here, and just encourage people to come down.”

A call for art was issued in August from the SCCD, asking for local artists interested in selling their work to submit proposals.
