Twice a year, a Springfield elderly housing complex invites the city’s first responders to a special lunch.

Local police officers and firefighters were honored at a thank you lunch at the assisted living facility the Wellington at Springfield.

Fire inspector Willie Spears expressed his appreciation to the elderly community.

“We really do appreciate all that they do,” Sears told 22News. “Whenever we get an opportunity to kick back and have a little lunch, we take advantage of it.”

This is the third year Wellington has hosted lunch for the city’s first responders.
