(WWLP) – With cases of the “bird flu” recently reported in multiple states, local farmers are taking the initiative to protect their flocks of birds. Almost 23 million birds have been killed in the U.S. across 24 states from the outbreak.

Due to the spread of the virus farmers are warning prices of poultry products could begin to rise. The rise in egg prices is unfortunate timing for those celebrating Easter right around the corner.

It is advised to keep wild birds away from domestic flocks. Flock owners or visitors may accidentally expose their flocks to HPAI through contaminated shoes, clothing, or equipment.
