CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle on Springfield Street in Chicopee Saturday night.
According to Chicopee Police Officer Travis Odiorne, the driver of the motor vehicle was arrested. A large portion of Springfield Street was blocked off while police investigated the crash.
According to the Hampden D.A.’s office, 24-year-old Nickolas Weichel of Chicopee was walking to his car, when he was hit by a driver who was speeding on the wrong side of the road. That driver, 22-year-old Nazier Grandison was arrested and charged with motor vehicle homicide and leaving the scene of a personal injury crash.
The DA’s office said he was going 70 miles per hour on a street with a speed limit of 30.
His bail was set at $10,000. He’s due back in court on January 10.
