BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WDTN) – Build-a-Bear’s Pay Your Age Day drew such large crowds worldwide that the event was forced to shut down.

According to their website, “Per local authorities, we cannot accept additional guests at our U.S. Build-a-Bear Workshop locations due to crowd and safety concerns.”

The Mall at Fairfield Commons, for example, was jam-packed with visitors of all ages on Thursday to take advantage of the promotion.

Hundreds of children and children-at-heart came out to create a new furry friend for a fraction of the normal cost.

Anyone who has gone through the Build-a-Bear experience knows it can quickly become expensive, depending on which animal you chose to build, what outfit you wish to dress it in, and what accessories you give it.

The company issued another alert earlier in the day, stating, “Based on the unprecedented response to our Pay Your Age Day event in our early opening stores, we are experiencing significantly longer than expected lines and large crowds. Local authorities are requiring us to limit the lines and crowds due to safety concerns. We understand this is disappointing, we are working to address the situation, and we will be reaching out to our Valued Guests soon.”
