The 17 days of The Big E are the busiest traffic days of the year on Memorial Ave in West Springfield.
Tens of thousands of people come to The Big E every day, and they need a place to park, which is why local businesses and area residents offer up spaces — for a price.
Every Saturday and Sunday of The Big E, Central Chevrolet, the big C by the Big E, closes its doors for sales, and offers its space for parking…and part of the profits go to the West Springfield High School sports teams.
“By closing they actually have their employees move all of the cars as many as they can off the lot and then bring in the high school booster clubs to park cars at their location,” Booster Club President Amy Blair told 22News. “Then a good percentage of the profit is given right back to the high school sports.”
Turning an unfortunate situation into an opportunity to help the community. But for those who aren’t attending The Big E, another business told 22News, they’re probably avoiding the area with delays and heavy traffic to be expected.
