EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. (WWLP) – The cancer survivor group Survivor Journeys arranged a pleasurable afternoon for 50 cancer survivors at the Obsessions Beauty Salon in East Longmeadow.

The Surpassing Survival day is the brainchild of cancer survivor Cindy Sheridan-Murphy of West Springfield.

Seridan-Murphy told 22News, “My vision is just spoiling women. I want to spoil women with makeovers and have them feel good. I’m a cancer survivor myself, and I really wanted them to see what it was like to have a day with no worries.”

The only gentleman in the salon, Longmeadow physician Dr. Jay Burton, is both a cancer survivor and founder of Survivor Journeys. Dr. Burton told 22News that Sunday’s gathering at the East Longmeadow beauty salon is very much in keeping with the goals of the support group he founded.

He said, “If you can get some time out for yourself for a few hours, forget your cancer experience and just enjoy life, because being a cancer survivor is really about how you’ve lived your life with cancer.”

As Dr. Burton saw the pleased, relaxed look on the faces of his fellow cancer survivors, he told 22News he’s certain that many of these women feel, if only for a short time, that they had never been diagnosed with cancer.
