A final face-off Thursday night between the candidates for the Hampden District State Senate seat.
The Springfield Democratic Ward Committees hosted a debate between State Senator Jim Welch and his challenger, Amaad Rivera, at the Mason Square Branch Library.
Welch is seeking re-election. Amaad Rivera is a former Springfield City Councilor.
The hour-long debate was the last chance for voters to see the candidates face each other directly before Tuesday’s primary.
Welch told 22News, “Positivity, truthfulness and honesty…we’ve been able to live up to that in our campaign.”
Rivera said, “My opponent and I couldn’t be anymore different. We’re talking about the status quo versus change.”
The primaries take place this upcoming Tuesday, September 4th.
