HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – A new career center opened Friday at Holyoke’s William J. Dean Technical High School, which will help guide students toward reaching their career goals.
CareerPoint, which already operates a career center in downtown Holyoke, is hoping that their center inside Dean Tech will help prevent students from dropping out, and provide them with the help they need to select a career. CareerPoint will offer assistance for students seeking employment in a variety of fields, from culinary arts to manufacturing.
Students told 22News that they’re looking toward the career center to help them.
“My goal for the future is to be in college and become an architect,” 12th grader Luis Breton said.
“I think this will help a lot of people, an opportunity to get the job they want to succeed in life,” 11th grader Ashley Barrios said.
11th grader Darrysha Medina is also excited by the possibilities the center could afford her. “I want to be a nurse, and the training will really help me,” Medina said.
CareerPoint Executive Director David Gadaire told 22News that he can see the benefits to the students from having a career center at the high school.
“We’ve been working on this for a long time. We’ve always maintained that what you do here to the careers, to the future; it puts a whole different meaning on what they’re doing here,” Gadaire said.
Dean Technical High School now has a partner in helping shape the lives of its hundreds of students, now and in the future.
