Chicopee man arrested for breaking into home on Walter Street

A Chicopee man was arrested Thursday for breaking into a home.

Chicopee Police Officer Mike Wilk said 39-year-old Kenneth Francis broke into a home on Walter Street, the same street he lives on.

Police received a report for a breaking and entering in progress around 8:00 p.m. The homeowner told police when they got home, they found the front door open and Francis standing in the kitchen area. They allegedly recognized him as a neighbor.

Wilk said Francis ran from the home, saying “don’t tell anybody about this.” He drove towards Holyoke, where Holyoke police located him about an hour later. They engaged in a foot chase with Francis and were able to catch him. He was taken back to Chicopee and arrested.

Francis is charged with breaking and entering in the nighttime to commit a felony, and larceny from a building.

Francis was held until his court hearing Friday morning and was released on $1,040 bail.
