HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Holyoke Community College students learned firsthand Thursday what It’s like to help people in need.

The students were assigned to Kate’s Kitchen to help prepare lunch for nearly two hundred homeless men and women.

Sophomore Brianna Fox told 22News she came away with a better understanding of the problems of the poor. “Just how under privileged and how privileged we are to have the option of eating whatever we want whenever we want it.”

Jasmine Lugo, Kitchen Director and cook said, “They also see the need of the people who come in, the way they are very low and they need help.”

Dozens of Holyoke Community College students each spent six hours in this community service project Thursday.

They studied the work of agencies that provide for people of limited means.
