Columbus Day weekend highway traffic starting to lessen

News

This weekend marked one of the busiest on the highway as people got out of town for the long weekend.

MassDOT said the routes heading towards Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Maine see some of the heaviest congestion during Columbus Day every year.

Dawn Shirak from Storm Ridge, New York passed through the Ludlow Travel Plaza headed for Boston and said she had planned to give herself plenty of time to reach her destination. She told 22News, “The traffic hasn’t been too bad, I left early for that reason. Coming down it was awful. There were like five different accidents and everything like that.”

The busiest days on the road are behind us, with Thursday and Friday being the busiest this long weekend.
