SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers using Interstate 91 and Interstate 291 in Springfield will have a new detour to deal with starting this weekend.
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation plans to close the northbound Exit 8 offramp and a single lane of I-91 northbound. The closure is scheduled from Sunday, April 10 through Thursday, April 14, between 9:00 each night until 5:00 the following morning.
MassDOT says the closures will go on as contractors work to finish installing jersey barriers on the highway and exit ramp.
While Exit 8 is closed, traffic on I-91 North will follow the signed detour route. That will have you getting off at Exit 9A and turning right from Plainfield Street onto Main Street, then left on Liberty Street and left on Chestnut Street, where you can get on I-291 eastbound.
