The 45th Icebreaker at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park will kick off the 2019 season this weekend. This year the track will go to a 10 race schedule.
“We had a lot of conversations with car owners and racers and everybody just wanted to race 10 times. It seemed to be the number. We didn’t make it up. The racers did and that’s a big step forward,” said Thompson Motorsports Park General Manager Terry Eames
The weekend will feature 11 different divisions of racing. The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will headline the event on Sunday for 150 laps. Ron Silk gave Stuart Motorsports their first win on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour last weekend at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA. Doug Coby took down the win at Myrtle Beach Speedway.
The Pro All Star Series Super Late Models will be on hand for a 75 lap race on Sunday. The Valenti Modified Racing Series will have their season opener on Saturday for a 50 lap race. along with the five Thompson Speedway NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions will be on hand including the Sunoco Modifieds, Late Models, Lite Modifieds, Limited Sportsman, and Mini Stocks
The NEMA Lites will start their 2019 season on Saturday along with the EXIT Realty 375 Sportsman and the EXIT Realty Pro Trucks.
There will be a practice on Friday that will begin at 1 p.m. On Saturday for the morning, fans will get to see practice with qualifying beginning at 12:15 p.m. with features set to begin at 3:35 p.m.after NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour practice.
On Sunday, feature events will begin at 12:35 p.m. with the Championship Banner Ceremony for the Thompson Speedway 2018 champions at 10:30 a.m. and the Fan Appreciation Party beginning at 11 a.m.
