Bacteria closes some Connecticut state swimming areas

Connecticut

(WTNH) – It’s certainly beach weather, but a number of swimming areas at state parks are closed due to bacteria in the water.

According to the Department Of Energy and Environmental Protection, Rocky Neck in Niantic, Gardner Lakes in Salem, Kettletown in Southbury and Mashamoquet Brook in Pomfret are closed.

Meantime, beaches in Stratford are closed to swimming Friday, because of Thursday’s heavy rains.

The Health Department says that the beaches should be back open on Saturday.

Additionally, DEEP announced that due to a shortage of lifeguards, Indian Well State Park in Shelton will not be staffed with lifeguards this season.
