EAST HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) A Good Samaritan is being applauded for intervening when a suspect got physical with an officer in East Haven.

Police said 57-year-old Frank Proto got physical with officers when they found drugs on him.

Police said Proto was asked several times to reveal what was being concealed in his hand, but he responded by putting both of his hands in his pockets.

After a physical altercation, the original complainant, who called in a report of a suspicious disabled car, came out of his house and helped officers take Proto into custody.

Once Proto was handcuffed, officers discovered crack cocaine in his possession.  A search of Proto’s vehicle also resulted in finding a glass smoking pipe commonly used for smoking crack, drug paraphernalia with residue on it and Xanex, anti-anxiety medication.

He is being held on $25,000 bond.
