WETHERSFIELD, Conn. (WWLP) – Hartford State’s Attorney Gail Hardy has released dash cam video in the case of a deadly police-involved shooting in Wethersfield, Connecticut.

The incident happened on April 20. According to the Hartford State’s Attorney’s Office, it began when an officer attempted to pull over Anthony Vega Cruz on Silas Deane Highway. Vega Cruz initially stopped, as seen in the video, but then drove away.

After a brief chase, Vega Cruz was shot through the car’s windshield by Wethersfield Police Officer Layau Eulizier Jr. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and died two days later.

An 18-year-old passenger in the car was not injured. She can be seen exiting the vehicle after Vega Cruz was shot.

The deadly officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the State’s Attorney for the Judicial District of Hartford.

“The audio/video recordings being released today are deemed the most pertinent to the use of force. These recordings have been edited out of respect for Mr. Vega Cruz and his family, but the material being released does capture the portions of the incident pertinent to the investigation into the use of deadly force,” Hardy said.
